What to Wear Underneath Your Prom Dress:
The search is over! Maybe you tried on 2 dresses, maybe you tried on 200 but you’ve finally found your dream prom dress! But wait… it has a plunging neckline and side cut outs and a fitted knit skirt that gives you crazy panty lines! What now?!
Let’s talk about what to wear underneath your prom dress!
Depending upon the cut of your prom dress you may need special undergarments: bras that won’t show with an open back or plunging neckline, or panties that won’t leave lines under even the most fitted knit gowns. Buying undergarments may not be as exciting as buying a prom dress, but proper underwear is a crucial and worthwhile investment that will make your prom dress shine; nothing ruins the sophistication of a beautiful evening gown more than panty lines or a bra strap peeking through!
Here’s Clarisse’s guide to what to wear underneath different styles of prom dresses to ensure you’ll look flawless!

Strapless A-line Dress (Clarisse style 2715):
If you need more support up top, you can wear a strapless bra; if your goal is to fill out the top a bit more, you can instead wear a strapless silicone stick on bra underneath your prom dress. Make sure to use Hollywood Fashion Tape to secure the top and prevent it from slipping down! The full skirt gives good coverage, so panty lines are not a huge concern: comfortable seamless panties will ensure you’re covered while looking smooth.
Plunging Neckline, Fitted Skirt, Keyhole Back (Clarisse style 2703):
A plunging neckline calls for a U-shaped bra. This style is backless; it’s held on by sticky side panels for invisible support! Pair it with a seamless thong to avoid panty lines with the fitted skirt.
Keyhole Back, Fitted Knit Skirt (Clarisse style 2823):
A knit skirt will cling and show every lump and bump; smooth things out underneath your prom dress with a high waist shaper panty. The keyhole back calls for a backless bra: a silicone stick on bra will do the trick. Since the dress is fully lined in the bust, you could also skip the bra and use Hollywood Fashion Tape!
Sheer Sides, Sheer Bodice (Clarisse style 2802):
This dress calls for unconventional support! (But you wouldn’t wear this style if you weren’t already daring, would you?) The sheer sides of this sexy style requires Strapless Underwear underneath your prom dress, a flexible silicone thong that’s sticky in the front and back to give you invisible coverage without having to go commando! Up top, use Hollywood Breast Lift Tape (or regular Hollywood Tape) to fake the support of a bra.
Having the right undergarments for your prom dress is so important! No one wants to look back on their pictures and see a bra strap or some unfortunate underwear lines!
